Our Winter.

This is my middle daughter.

For those of you that don’t know the back story, I’ll tell you the condensed version.  Three years ago, I had a two year old and a four year old  (my birth children.)  Then Kristie, Winter’s older sister, moved into our home and we became her foster family.  Winter is Kristie’s biological sister.  She moved in with us about a year and a half ago.

Back then, I didn’t know that I wanted, could take care of, or love two teen girls.  I also was deeply concerned about continuing to satisfy the needs of my little ones fully.

I doubted.  I worried.  (I still worry my fair share btw.)

But, you know something?  LOVE is stronger.  It is more powerful than all of my doubts and fears.  God knew before any of us did, that we were the girls’ ”forever family.”  None of us can imagine our lives without Kristie or Winter now.  My two birth children love them deeply, and the four of them share a connection that is difficult for me to find words for.   The girls’ adoption was finalized last August.

Since Winter has lived with us the shortest amount of time, I have found that I have the fewest pictures of her.

Of course, we had to fix that.

To our sweet Winter: Keep on being strong and beautiful and silly.  Keep knowing who you are.  Keep loving Hello Kitty.  We love you to the stars and back.

We are so glad you’re here.
